Use of Boron Compounds in Copper Production

Supervisor(s): Dr. Ahmet GEVECİ & Dr. Yavuz A. TOPKAYA

In this study, use of boron compounds as flux will be investigated in order to reduce copper losses to slag in copper production. Slag fluidity can be provided by adding B2O3 or Colemanite into charge materials and so it is possible to decrease copper losses by accelerating separation of matte particles. Therefore, a new application field for boron compounds which are produced in Turkey will be established. Furthermore, it will be possible to minimize copper losses to slag.
