High Pressure Acid Leaching of Turkish Laterites

Worldwide, the majority of nickel is produced from sulphide ores. However, the trend is changing towards lateritic ores due to the abundant reserve of laterites over sulphides (~72% of land-based nickel resources), and the advancement of hydrometallurgy in metal extraction processes. The aim of this thesis is to study and optimize the process parameters (acid/ore ratio, temperature, % solids, feed size, and effect of alkalines and salts on dissolution, etc) of Turkish Laterites. The final goal is to add value to this important source of nickel for national economy and to constitute technical and scientific foundation in Turkey.
