Ferromanganese is an important additive used in the production of steel. Turkey produces more than 20 million tons steel and the quantity produced is steadily increasing. No ferromanganese is produced in Turkey, however, the entire need is imported. Studies related to ferromanganese production should be useful for ferromanganese production investments. Production of ferromanganese and silicoferromanganese from a manganese ore reserve located in Erzincan will be studied in this thesis. After characterization, ore will be smelted with carbon as the reducing agent. Type and quantity of slagmaking additives, temperature and time will be used as the experimental variables and the resulting alloy and slag will be subjected to chemical analysis. The objective of the study is to determine the optimum operating conditions.
