Fabrication and Characterization of Electromagnetic Wave Absorbing Structural Composite Materials

Supervisor(s): Dr. Arcan Fehmi DERİCİOĞLU

Interaction of electromagnetic waves from different sources may result in interference and decrease in the quality and misinterpretation of the transferred data. Information loss due to this interaction can be avoided by the use of appropriate absorbing and shielding materials. In this study, electromagnetic absorption of surface modified glass fiber woven fabrics, commonly used as reinforcement material in glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) structural composites, has been investigated. Electromagnetic wave absorbing properties of the glass weave fabrics were tailored by the application of metallic coating on fabric surfaces. Electromagnetic wave interaction for individual single layers and double layers are measured by “free-space” method in 18 -27 GHz frequency range.
