Silver Doped Silicate-Based Antibacterial Coatings
Supervisor: Dr. Caner DURUCAN
There is a growing interest in developing materials for protection against infectious microrganisms such as spores and bacteria due to increased heath concerns . Recently, antibacterial materials containing various biocides have been developed using sol-gel method and some of them are already in commercial use. But these materials lack chemically durability and continuous release of the biocide for a long period. This study aims to develop a chemically stable silica-based silver-doped anbacterial material in powder and coating form for different technological applications. For this purpose, the effect of silver loading, gelation, drying conditions and calcination temperature for tetraethyl ortho silicate (TEOS) derived sol-gel sytems are investigated.
