A Combinatorial Study of Hydrogen Storage Alloys |
Supervisor: Dr. Tayfur ÖZTÜRK |
|
Mg is the only pure metallic element capable of reversibly storing more than 5 wt% of hydrogen in the form of metal hydride. However, pure Mg does not satisfy the requirements of hydrogen desorption temperature. In this current work in stead of producing one composition, all the phases alloys of Mg are tried to produce in one sample by a combinatorial method and screened to observe hydrogen absorbing phases simultaneously. Also samples are severly deformed by ECAP (equal channel angular pressing) to increase the defect density. The density of defects in solids can be so high that a considerable fraction of all atoms of the solid may be located in the high angle grain boundaries and at the dislocation lines and hydride stability is reduced. |
