In the scope of the present study, ALON and Spinel transparent ceramic materials will be reinforced by metallic fibers in order to improve their impact resistance while retaining their optical transparency functionality. These light transmitting ceramic matrix composites are expected to replace the monolithic layers of today' s optically transparent laminated systems by their improved impact resistance properties. As a result of this, reduction of single layer thickness and layer numbers as well as weight and design cost of the transparent structural systems will be achieved.
